I know this is late but I recently went to Chicago in July and thought that I would post some food reviews of places I went to eat around there. Here are a few highlights:
Apparently Chicago is known for three things in the food department – hot dogs, beef sandwiches and deep dish pizzas. Lets start with the first two. I was told by our bus tour guide (she was excellent by the way – Gray Line Tours) to check out a place called Portillo’s Hot Dogs.
The place was not difficult to find as the tour bus lady dropped us off right in front of the restaurant. Inside was chaotic as it resembled a cafeteria with individual stations for each type of food.
There was lots of wacky decorations as it had a 1930’s Gangster look and a bonus – William “The Refrigerator” Perry endorsed this place!
The hot dog that I got I made sure to make it a Chicago-style which consisted of mustard, onions, sweet relish, peppers, sliced tomatoes (?) and quartered kosher pickle cut length wise on a poppy-seed bun. No ketchup. That’s apparently frowned upon, who knew?
Regardless the hot dog was great but was even better…the Italian Beef Sandwich. Pure heaven. Lots of juicy beef and sweet peppers encased in a nice crusty loaf but what made it totally out-of-this-world was that the WHOLE sandwich was dunked in an au jus sauce!! It was messy but oh so tasty. Definitely recommend that one.
So if you make it to Chicago try Portillo’s as it will be well worth the trip!

As for your question of what I recommend, pretty much all the restaurant articles are positive except the Vegetarian restaurant called Fresh. Hey there, I think your website might be having browser compatibility issues. When I look at your blog in Safari, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, great blog!
